The Idyllic Beaches of Corfu, Greece
The lovely island of Corfu is set in the dark blue waters of the Ionian Sea. It is most definitely one of the most beautiful islands in Greece and is definitely worth a visit.
The idyllic setting of Corfu Island makes it a perfect place for everyone who is looking for some “me” time – especially the stunning beaches and coves scattered along the island’s coastlines.
Your Corfu Holidays wouldn’t be complete without a visit to this charming resort. Located in the north-western section of Corfu, about 25 kilometres from the town centre.
There are several coves and beaches in the area, and all of them with their turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Don’t forget to bring your beach shoes by the way, as the beach can be somewhat rocky sometimes.
However, there is one particular beach that stands out from the rest, and that would be the Interno Grotta Blu or the Blue Grotto. It is quite similar to the Grotta Azzurra in Italy, where the sun passess through a cavity beneath the waters which then gives the water that eerie yet spellbinding appeal.
As night time approaches, you can take a walk in the nearby hills where you can watch the sun set in the Ionian and floods the sea with an orange and crimson glow.
Kerasia is beach that is both for the quiet loving and energetic person. The long stretch of the beach is a perfect place to walk in the cool mornings and late afternoon, and there are nearby coastal walks which are perfect for the more adventurous traveller.
Kerasia is also known to be one of the most quiet places in Corfu, and makes for one great place to plop down and read a book. There are chairs and umbrellas available, or you can find yourself a comfortable spot under the shades of trees, then you can catch up on your reading as you listen to the relaxing sound of sea water lapping on the beach.
North Agios Georgios (North Saint George)
Just to clear things, the western coast of Corfu has two Agios Georgios, and what this section will talk about is the Agios Georgios located in the northern section.
This beach here is one of the more touristy areas of Corfu. The beach is more famous because of its fine brown sands, which provides a lovely walk in contrast with the rocky beaches mentioned earlier. There are sun beds available for those who are planning to catch some Greek sun, as well as umbrellas for those who are not. There are also hiking paths that go through the nearby hills, which should provide you with a picturesque view of the crescent bay.
These natural aquatic beauties is one of the many reasons why people plan Holidays to Corfu, as there are certainly more to the island than wonderful beaches and marine adventures. There are local taverns where you can taste local delicacies and authentic Greek wine, as well as bars and resorts where you can go and mingle with other tourists and locals. All these and more makes Corfu a travel destination that shouldn’t be missed.
