Can You Make Time for a Trip to London?
It is often said that a capital city is rarely anything like the rest of the country. This is certainly the case in the UK. London is a wildly exciting and cosmopolitan place which feels completely different from the UK’s other big cities. No matter where in the country you live, you have got to make some time for a trip there at some point.
See the Sights
There is something utterly weird but also satisfying about going sightseeing in London. Even if it is your first time in the capital you will already be extremely familiar with the likes of the Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Street and all the rest of the classic tourist attractions. Finally seeing them in real life after years of seeing them on the telly and in the papers is a strange feeling. It is even more disorienting to do it as part of a huge, multinational throng of tourists. The best idea is to relax and enjoy being a tourist in your own country for a while.
Explore the City
If you have the time to explore the city away from the big sights you are in for another treat. Places like Camden Market, Portobello Market, Greenwich and Brixton all have different types of feel to them. What you will also find is that some neighbourhoods also have strong concentrations of immigrants, making it a wonderful experience to wander through the streets and enjoy the food, the language, the music and other aspects of the culture of other countries. You could spend years exploring London and not see it all, so try picking a few areas and checking them out rather than spreading yourself too thin.
Enjoy the Food
We looked at the food in passing in the last point but it is definitely worth its own point too. In London you can eat just about anything you can imagine from any type of international cuisine. Both in the centre of the city and its other neighbourhoods you will find all sorts of restaurants to tempt you. Instead of sticking to traditional British food you might see this as a chance to try authentic cuisine from another part of the world without even leaving the country.
See the West End Shows
A classic activity when in the capital is to see a show in the West End. If you book online before travelling you might get a bargain price, while some deals will include a pre show meal as well. These shows are great fun and will give you a lasting memory of your trip. You could also check out what other festivals, shows, exhibitions and other events are on while you are there. There are always lots of things going on in and around London so you will be spoiled for choice. In fact, you might find that there are so many options than choosing just one or two of them is one of the toughest parts of the trip.
